West Virginia University - Alpha Rho Chapter - Current Brothers
The current chapter of active brothers is xx men strong.
| An update from the Chapter Brothers |
Throughout this last semester the Alpha Rho chapter has been able to make a significant impact on not only West Virginia University, but also the heart of Morgantown. After moving into the new house and establishing the new manor, rush week was quickly approaching. This was the first time Kappa Alpha opened the doors of the new manor to the public. Through rush, we were able to take on 17 new pledges. With the help of all of the brothers and pledges we were able to accomplish more than we hoped. Following Fall rush we began to construct our homecoming float. Based on the popular Toys R Us slogan, WVU adopted the theme, “I don’t want to grow up, I am a WVU kid.” After being paired up with Pi Beta Phi we quickly adopted a ghost buster theme for our float. Sure enough our float earned us first place. Yet, in spite of winning the float contest we ended up second overall in homecoming by a few points. Also, we decided this year to change our philanthropy event from KA Karaoke to a pageant known as “The Greek Goddesses.” During this event we were able to include every sorority as well as every fraternity on campus. Each sorority competed in three different contests. The first was intelligence, then beauty, and finally dance. Also, each fraternity sent one representative to join us on the panel of judges. Alpha Phi ended up winning overall by majority of points. Through this new philanthropy we were able to raise $400 toward the muscular dystrophy association.
Our most recent event this semester was our Christmas party. To make our Christmas party unique we decided to join Alpha Phi and provide gifts for the underprivileged children of Morgantown. Each brother paired up with a sister of Alpha Phi and spent roughly $40 on a specific child of the Boys and Girls Club of Morgantown. Some of the events we had planned for them included decorating cookies, eating a spaghetti dinner, and receiving presents from their hero, Santa Clause. By the end of the day everyone was worn out, yet completely satisfied knowing that the children would never forget the day they visited the KA manor.
Overall, Alpha Rho has accomplished much over this past semester proved. We provided an amazing service to Morgantown and had an great time participating in it. Our new philanthropy seems to be a great success as well as the talk of the town. We also expect our Spring rush to be more organized and much more successful. After reviewing our past semester, we are feeling more than confident entering this spring.
